But then the Tar Heels suffered a stunning defeat to the Virginia Cavaliers, in a game where UNC was a massive 24-point favorite. As many of us know, Drake Maye will not be under center in Charlotte. Conner Harrell, who looked amazing against Campbell, will be the quarterback for North Carolina. Tez Walker and Cedric Gray are two other notable names that won't suit up. On paper, the Mountaineers look like the easy pick. Unless the Heels have magically cleaned up their run defense and ability to adjust to tempo, they may be in some trouble. When it comes to the total that hit the board at 57, the early action has been on the Under, with the new number sitting at 54. 5 as of writing this. Since I like West Virginia to do a fair amount of scoring in this one, I would lean toward the full game Over as well. But it won’t be an official play considering all of the pieces North Carolina is missing on offense, not to mention you have to question what the Tar Heels’ motivation will be to play in this bowl as well. The only thing I'd note is that UNC will march a lot of new faces onto the field. That may not be such a bad thing. The volatility of who we will see may invite some youth and fire to a team that most likely isn't too motivated to dump mayonnaise on their head coach.
